This rock at Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Point reminded me of abstract painting. There’s much more going on in this design than I could ever duplicate though.

Lichens are great in creating a mix of order and disorder, resulting in beauty. I had also used a picture of lichens as an ilustration of an article on what I think lies at the root of beauty, see https://asifoscope.org/2013/05/10/on-beauty/, might be interesting to you.

I did enjoy your thoughts on beauty and creativity. I also thought the photo very pleasing. My husband and I used to argue over whether photography is art—I, having been raised by a painter, had no trouble seeing the answer as ‘yes’ but he, coming from a family with no connection to art yet loving photography, struggled with that idea for years. He said all photographers do is document subjects. I said that, to me, that act is creative, because one chooses what will be in the frame and then touches up the image one believes it is needed. Finally, he came around to my way of thinking (and his blog at https://lightonthetrail.com/ reflects that).
